Udaipur also spelled Udaypur, city, southern Rajasthan state, northwestern India. It lies in the hills of the Aravali Range. Udaipur ("City of Sunrise") was made the capital of the princely state of Udaipur in 1568 by Maharana Udai Singh after the sack of Chittaurgarh. A walled city, it stands on a ridge crowned by the Maharana's palace, which was begun in 1570. To the west lies Lake Pichola with its two small islands and marble palaces, one of which served as a refuge for the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan (reigned 1628-58) when, before his accession, he revolted against his father, Jahangīr. A major road and rail junction. Udaipur is a historical city which was the capital of medieval Rajput kingdom of Mewar. (Located in the Indian state of Rajasthan). There are several ballads and folklores associated with the brave ruler of Mewar- Maharana Pratap. The heroic resistance put up by the Maharana against all odds in front of the mighty Mughal emperor Akbar, inspires people all over India. There are several palaces, fortresses, temples, havelis of the medieval Mewar times-still in their pristine glory in Udaipur. Udaipur is also known as "The city of Lakes" for the famous Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar. The panoramic view that the lakes offer attracts tourists from all over the world.
Our guest house "Bhanwar Vilas", located centrally near Gangaur Ghat, is easily approachable from both the railway Station (3Km.) and the Bus Stand (2.5Kms). A number of places worth visiting from the tourist point of view are situated at a walking distance from Bhanwar Vilas.
The traditional royal palace famous as the City Palace, is located about ½ Km. away.
On the way to city palace lies the magnificently sculptured temple known as the Jagdish Temple.
A Resplendent rose garden with a large number of medicinal plant and aviary, called Gulab Bagh is also at a walking distance (1 Km) On the way to Gulab Bagh, there are several shops selling curios, traditional ornaments, customary dress patterns, decorative items, wooden toys etc.
As we proceed towards south-west, just nearly in another beautiful garden, known as "Dudh Talai". A Modern ropeway connects the Karni Mata Temple on the hilltop to another hillock at some distance.

Sajjangarh is being developed as a biological park with the introduction of a rich variety of flora and fauna. On the top of the hill is a two centuries old royal Monsoon Palace built by the then ruler.
The drive way constructed all around Fateh Sagar and the Nehru Garden in the midst of lake Fateh Sagar is also a tourist's delight.
Moti Magri a small hillock on the banks of the Lake Fateh Sagar, has been developed as a memorial for the life and events related to Maharana Pratap.
Saheliyon ki Bari, a royal resort for the summer season with a beautiful garden is a destination that cannot be missed.
